Postoperative nausea and vomiting is one of the commonest reasons for unplanned admissions. A single dose administered within 90 minutes of anaesthesia induction along with use of a serotonin (5HT3) receptor antagonist has been proven to succeed at reducing nausea and vomiting [12]. Although a concern for hyperglycaemia and steroid use exists, no evidence has been found linking a single dose to any other major surgical risk [13]. Given this possibility, vigilant glucose monitoring and treatment of hyperglycaemia should be part of routine care.
