EEG performed 48 h after cardiac arrest in a patient with asynchronous, asymmetric, and variable myoclonus involving primarily the distal lower extremities. There are central epileptiform discharges time locked with myoclonic jerks, with a continuous background. MRI showed no definitive evidence of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. Level of consciousness was improving by postcardiac arrest day 9, when the patient underwent withdrawal of life-sustaining measures and died for reasons largely unrelated to the cardiac arrest.
