DISPOSITION 

• All sexual partners of the patient within 10 days of the onset of symptoms should be treated with one of the previously discussed treatment regimens (see “Acute General Rx”).

• Patients should be reexamined 3 to 7 days after initiation of therapy. Ulcers should improve symptomatically within 3 days and objectively within 7 days after initiation of successful therapy.

• Lack of improvement within 7 days should raise the possibility of co-infection with another organism, a resistant strain of H. ducreyi, HIV positive patient, or incorrect diagnosis.
