The CRASH trials are slightly confusing, as they are not all about traumatic brain injury and the CRASH acronym stands for something different in each trial. The original CRASH(Corticosteroid Randomisation After Significant Head injury) trial looked at steroids in head injury.CRASH 2 (Clinical Randomisation of an Antifibrinolytic in Significant Haemorrhage) examined the use of tranexamic acid for major trauma within a multicentre international cohort, then published a subgroup analysis of a nested pilot which suggested that tranexamic acid may reduce the development of intracranial haematoma expansion. As such, CRASH 3 is currently recruiting to look at the use of tranexamic acid specifically for isolated TBI.
