We use Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) as a model system to study:

molecular mechanisms of neurotransmitter release,

the function and regulation of gap junctions, and

the function and regulation of the BK channel, which is a large-conductance and calcium/voltage-gated potassium channel.

Postdoctoral positions are available in a C. elegans neurobiology lab at the University of Connecticut Medical School. The lab uses a variety of modern techniques (e. g. electrophysiology, genetics, optogenetics, molecular biology, and cell biology) to study molecular mechanisms of neurotransmitter release, and the function and regulation of gap junctions and potassium channels.
