Chair, Section on Annual Meeting
主席致辞
A very sincere welcome to all of our members, other attendees, exhibitors, and guests to the 2008 ASAAnnual Meeting in Orlando. Hundreds of ASA members have committed time to develop this wonderful program, from developing educational content to reviewing submitted scientific abstracts, supported by our dedicated ASAAnnual Meeting staff. In addition to close to 2000 scientific abstracts for your edification, the program this year includes 160 Refresher Course Lectures, 91 Panels, 10 Breakfast Panels, 22 Luncheon Panels, 16 Clinical Forums, 19 Point-Counter Point debates, 138 Problem-Based Learning Discussion (each presented twice), and 30 Workshops. We will have thought-provoking plenary sessions for our Rovenstine Memorial, Severinghaus Honorary, and Wright Memorial Lectures. We welcome everyone to attend the stimulating Celebration of Research sessions on Tuesday following the Severinghaus Lecture. Once again, the ASA Annual Meeting Exhibit Hall will be the most extraordinary opportunity in the world to view new products and equipment of relevance to the practice of Anesthesiology, and to discuss them with industry experts. The subspecialty-based Learning Tracks which have been so successful in recent years have been continued this year. By now our Annual Meeting attendees are familiar with selecting their choices within the meeting, aided by the Learning Track groupings and labels. The officers and leaders of the ASA urge you to consider attending any of the Reference Committee Meetings or House of Delegates Meetings, to express your views in the former, and see your Society in action in the latter. Resident and Medical Student members are encouraged to attend the substantial Resident Component educational/scientific program, and the Resident Component and Medical Student Component House of Delegates Meetings, respectively.
New this year, several of the subspecialty societies have partnered with the Committee on Simulation, to offer continuously ongoing simulation education sessions, with either general sessions or subspecialty sessions, on Saturday through Monday of the Annual Meeting. This is your chance to try your hand at simulation diagnosis and management of common clinical scenarios, to assess your skills in real time, and experience a simulator clinical session in a supportive environment, prior to undertaking this as part of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s Maintenance of Certification continuum.
The Committee on Art Exhibits has once again prepared a respite for the soul in a portion of the exhibit area, which we hope you can all enjoy. The ASA staff has compiled an outstanding selection of activities and excursions for our attendees and guests to enjoy as well, while many organizations and university departments have planned evening social events for your relaxation and to meet old and new acquaintances. Once again, preregistered attendees can print their badges and tickets at kiosks in the Headquarters Hotel lobbies, or in the Orange County Convention Center, West Building. If you are registering or purchasing tickets on site, you will need to go to the Registration Area at the convention center. Please remember that CME credits must be applied for on-line, either at kiosks in the Headquarters Hotels or in the Convention Center, or else by accessing the ASA website.
The Section on Annual Meeting; all of our dedicated speakers, presenters, and exhibitors; as well as our ASA leaders, state delegates, and staff, wish you the very best educational and scientific experience at the 2008 ASA Annual Meeting.
Patricia Kapur, M.D.
