Job description
The Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (Helmholtz-Institut für Metabolismus-, Adipositas- und Gefäßforschung,) at the University of Leipzig, aims at uncovering the molecular underpinnings of adipose tissue dysfunction to enable precision therapies for obesity and its co-morbidities, like metabolic and vascular disturbances, using a clinical translational approach.
The institute is part of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center and closely linked to the metabolic research activities of the Faculty of Medicine Leipzig. For the project “The contribution of salivary extra-cellular vesicles to taste-cell transcriptomics and eating behavior in obesity” the Clinical Obesity Research group is looking for a highly motivatedPhD Student.
Your mission :
The Clinical Obesity Research group focuses on the underlying molecular pathways of metabolic alterations in obesity with the aim to reach precision medicine. The announced PhD position will be part of a project aiming to unravel the role of salivary extracellular vesicles on taste cell function and eating habits under obese and weight loss conditions. We will use methodologies such as dynamic light scattering, electron microscopy, western blotting, NGSsequencing and luciferase reporter assays for in vitro validation experiments, as well as bioinformatics data analyses.
Your Profil:
l a Master’s degree in a relevant field and a strong interest in obesity research
l endocrinology and molecular biology- Strong background in molecular and cellular biology
l Hands on knowledge of isolating extracellular vesicles from body fluids, NGS sequencing and in vitro cell culture
l Experience in bioinformatics analyses using R is beneficial
l Excellent English language proficiency, both written and spoken.
