Ichthyosis Vulgaris vs. X-linked Ichthyosis
Ichthyosis Vulgaris
1. Cornified layer slightly to moderately thickened
2. Compact laminated orthokeratosis, often associated with plugging of infundibula (keratosis pilaris)
3. Granular layer thinned (to one cell layer) or nearly absent
4. Thinned epidermis
5. Thinned suprapapillary plates
6. Mitotic figures in the basal layer rare
7. Interdigitations between epidermal rete ridges and dermal papillae shallow or flat
X-linked Ichthyosis
1. Cornified layer moderately to markedly thickened
2. Compact laminated orthokeratosis, rarely associated wit plugging of infundibula
3. Granular layer normal (two to tree cell layers) or slightly thickened
4. Normal or slightly thickened epidermis
5. Normal suprapapillary plates
6. Mitotic figures in the basal layer occasional
7. Pattern between epidermal rete ridges and dermal papillae normal
