Pituitary apoplexy (PA) occurs with hemorrhage or infarction of the pituitary gland. This most commonly occurs in the setting of a pituitary adenoma. However, pituitary apoplexy may occur in association with what other conditions?
PA may occur in association with pregnancy, head trauma, dopamine agonist therapy, or pituitary radiation. PA presents with a combination of headache, vomiting, ophthalmoplegia, decreased visual acuity, and altered mental status.
