　　The film follows a group of German schoolboys, talked into enlisting at the beginning of World War 1 by their jingoistic teacher. The story is told entirely through the experiences of the young German recruits and highlights the tragedy of war through the eyes of individuals. As the boys witness death and mutilation all around them, any preconceptions about “the enemy”and the“rights and wrongs”of the conflict disappear, leaving them angry and bewildered. The film is not about heroism but about drudgery and futility and the gulf between the concept of war and the actuality.

　　害羞的女子在陪同雇主前往蒙特卡洛时巧遇富有的Maximim de Winter。而此时的Maxim还在为妻子Rebecca在海难中死去而痛苦不堪。她和Maxim渐渐陷入爱河，并结为连理回到Maxim位于Cornwall的庄园Manderlay。第二任Maxim夫人结识了管家Danvers夫人，同时发现Rebecca的阴影并没有消失。

But sometimes in my dreams I do go back－to the strange days of my life－which began for me in the South of France.
