Gavin Yamey MD is a Senior Editor at PLoS Medicine (www.plosmedicine.org) and Consulting
Editor at PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases (www.plosntds.org), both published by the non-profit
organization the Public Library of Science (www.plos.org). Both journals are open access—
readers are free to read and reuse all the materials provided articles are properly cited.

Gavin began his editorial career in 1999 as an editorial registrar at the BMJ, and was then
appointed deputy editor of the Western Journal of Medicine, a primary care medical journal based
in California. He joined the Public Library of Science in 2004. Gavin qualified as a physician in
1994, passed his MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians) in 1997, and worked
as a neurology registrar at the Homerton Hospital Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. He
lives in San Francisco.
