【medical-news】ABO血型与哮喘无关
Among a cohort of individuals from southern India, there was also no significant association between any blood group and asthma severity.
Publishing their findings in the journal Lung, Mahdi Bijanzadeh (University of Mysore, India) and colleagues note that previous studies evaluating the relationship between ABO blood status and asthma have shown variable findings.
ABO blood is the most important blood-group system in transfusion and transplant practices.
The ABO system controls glycosyltransferases, which play a role in building oligosaccharide structures on the cell surface of red blood cells, the vascular endothelium, and the exocrine secretion system, including the respiratory tract.
To clarify the relationship between blood type and asthma, researchers analyzed the ABO blood group of 200 children and adults with asthma and 2000 healthy individuals that served as controls.
The most common blood type among patients was "O", which was present in 43.5% of asthmatics and 43.6% of controls. The next most common blood types were B, A, and AB.
A logistic regression test of the distribution of different blood types found no significant difference between patients and controls.
More importantly, when the team compared the distribution of blood type with asthma severity, they observed no significant differences among mild, moderate, or severe asthma patients.
The researchers say the strengths of their study are that it included a large cross-section of the control population, and the diagnosis of asthma was on standard guidelines.
